Help for a Hero
Three years ago, after Hurricane Katrina, local truck driver - Peter Bruno started a home grown relief mission in Durham Region to help the citizens of the Mississippi Gulf Coast, Peter was the first North American long haul truck driver with donated relief supplies to reach the devastated town of Long Beach, Mississippi, and the relief centre called Camp Coast Care. Unfortunately, Peter Bruno had 2 heart attacks after that and was out of work for a long time, but had slowly recovered. Recently he had his third heart attack, is awaiting surgery and may now face losing his livelihood. (For more on Peter’s story – you can watch OLN (Outdoor Life Network) in Canada on Sunday August 31, 9 PM.)
Friends of Peter have started a Facebook Group with blog messages to encourage Peter and help him get back on his feet. www.facebook.com (click on Groups, then Help for a Hero)
How can you help? If you want to make a donation to the trust account for Peter, you can go into any Scotia bank in Canada and make a donation to Account number # 807620884383. You can also mail a cheque addressed to that account number c/o Help for a Hero, 152 Madawaska Ave., Oshawa, ON L1J 1E5.
Another opportunity to donate is happening on Sunday Sept. 14th, in Bowmanville, Ontario. Discovery Church, located at John James Elementary School on Mearns Avenue from 12-3 PM, will be celebrating it’s second anniversary at this event, and they have indicated they will be directing all donations to local hero Peter Bruno.
